“How did you end up naming yourselves ‘CURA Strategies’?”
This is one of our favorite questions to answer and luckily, we get it quite often. CURA is more than a name for us, it is the core value that drives everything we do.
CURA—Latin for care, concern and attention to others—exemplifies our mission and the way we approach our work and our clients. For us, strategic communications and government relations aren’t just tools we use in service of our clients’ priorities, but are avenues for transformational, “CURAgeous” change.
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines courage as having “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere and withstand danger, fear or difficulty.” Whereas courage often involves an individual display of perseverance or strength, our team is committed to performing acts of CURAge—a term we’ve coined to represent taking bold actions for the purpose of others. When we walk into our office and see the words “CURAgeous work happens here” on the wall, it’s more than just a catchy slogan—it’s a declaration of who we are and why we’re here.
When we come into the office each day, we do so knowing that our work is actively helping improve the health and wellbeing of people across the country. Whether its improving mental health care access and quality, combating the opioid crisis, creating the gold standard for diabetes prevention, driving health care payments based on quality not quantity, ensuring veteran caregivers have the tools they need to care for their loved ones or advancing telemedicine, the partnerships we form with our clients are all built on the foundation of CURA.
The impact of our name doesn’t end with our work. It can also be seen in the way we treat one another. Proactive service to one another is expected and rewarded at CURA. We are more than just a team—anyone who walks through our doors immediately becomes a part of the CURA family. A team member’s success is our success, and their struggles are our struggles. We actively lift one another up and support each other’s development both in and out of the office. Because you know what they say… “Teamwork makes the dream work!”
