May marks Global Employee Health & Fitness Month! Spearheaded by the National Association for Health and Fitness, this awareness month aims to promote healthy habits and lifestyles in the workplace by encouraging employers to cultivate healthy environments and activities for employees to engage in. Even though much of our team is still working remotely, as a health and wellness-focused company we always encourage our team to prioritize their health. In honor of Global Employee Health & Fitness Month, a few CURA team members shared how they’re maintaining their physical and mental health while working from home, and we hope it inspires you to find a healthy routine that works for you, too!
“For me, the best way to maintain my physical and mental health is to be outside. Luckily, it’s a family affair. My family loves to be outside, especially my oldest sons. We have been having a great time exploring the hiking trails around Northern Virginia. Now that the weather is nicer, I get up in the morning and get out and run. I’m definitely not fast, but it’s a great time to be outside, listen to music or a podcast. We also started playing pickle ball which is a super fun game—a cross between tennis and Ping-Pong. It’s a full-family activity, and easy to do for us as we have a court in the park across the street. I also try to start my day with a quiet time with prayer and a devotional. It’s a vital time for me to focus and stay centered on what is really important.”

“My home barre studio is where you’ll find me winding down from the workday most days, I just recently took my 100th virtual Pure Barre class since December! I’ve come to rely on my Pure Barre practice as my transition from home office to home… home—a sacred boundary made easier to observe thanks to virtual classes. After adjusting to doing my barre practice from home since March 2020, I’m learning to explore my love for Pure Barre in a whole new way on a more individual level and carving out those 50 minutes for myself has become an act of self-care that I cherish at the end of a long day.”

“I love getting outside. Running is my go-to stress reliever and DC is such a beautiful city to explore on foot. Running helps clear my head and lift my spirit. I always seem to have more energy and more excitement for my work and life in general after a quick 30-minute midday run!”
Michael Lisowski, Senior Manager of Government Relations
“This past year has been a real period of growth for me as far as my health and wellness is concerned. I’ve begun to incorporate morning walks into my daily routine, and it’s done wonders for both my physical and mental health! Additionally, the increased physical activity each day has encouraged me to start building better habits with food as well. Now I opt for more fresh and “clean” options rather than super heavy or greasy foods like I used to enjoy. I feel like I have a whole new outlook on what it means to be healthy and feel good—I have more energy, I feel more positive, and I start each day ready for a whole new adventure!”
