Reddit Rules in the GEO Era

IMG_3916

TL;DR: Reddit is more than a platform for discussions about niche interests and hyper-specific questions. It is where your audience is giving their honest thoughts and searching for the truth about your brand. And AI tools love that kind of real, context-rich content.

AI Platforms 🤝 Reddit

As a digital strategist, I spend a lot of time thinking about where the people we’re trying to reach actually get their information. Often, the most valuable insights come from the places they turn when they are not scrolling social media for advice, reading a perfectly placed story or searching Google for an exact keyword.

Chances are, your audiences are on Reddit. Or at least getting answers sourced from Reddit via ChatGPT.

On Reddit, people are asking oddly specific questions, comparing their weirdly similar experiences, venting about pain points, looking for real advice and using acronyms that only their corner of the internet understands. And, in many cases, doing all of this without knowing your organization, solution or campaign exists.

That is what makes Reddit so valuable for Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO.

Reddit Has Entered the Chat

The GEO opportunity on Reddit is bigger than likes, comments or upvotes. Reddit is citable in a way most social platforms are not. In other words, a post doesn’t have to go viral to reach people. It can still be discoverable, searchable and citable long after it’s published.

Axios reported that Reddit is the second most-cited platform across major AI models, based on Profound’s analysis of more than 1 billion AI citations. Other analyses suggest that organizations with a credible Reddit presence may be as much as eight times more likely to be cited by AI.

As AI reshapes how people discover information, showing up in authentic, high-intent conversations matters more than ever. Generative tools are not just pulling from polished website copy. They are learning from community conversations, earned media, the comment section, and signals of credibility across the web.

For CURA’s clients, Reddit has become one way to tap into those “unaware” audiences and understand how people are talking before they enter a more traditional search or ad conversion journey.

AAPACN: Raising AI Visibility One Free-Form Post at a Time

With the recent release of AAPACN’s Nursing Home Administrator Certification, Reddit helped us promote the launch to long-term care (LTC) professionals who may not have been actively searching for the new certification but were part of the broader conversation around nursing home leadership, skilled nursing facilities, administrator training and LTC career growth.

The Reddit ads we ran for AAPACN were the largest drivers of new users to the campaign landing page and contributed to a 6% lift in unbranded AI visibility and 3% increase in citations this quarter. Meaning that even when users didn’t ask about them by name, AAPACN was showing up in AI answers more often. We also tested the Free-Form Ad format, a boosted longer-form content preferred by Reddit algorithms and AI.

Reddit works because GEO is not just about being findable when someone searches your exact brand name. It is about being present in the digital pathways that shape how AI tools understand your organization. Especially when “reading an article” these days can mean watching a 30-second clip or reading an AI summary of the article.

Obesity Medicine Association: Reaching Untapped Corners of an Audience

We saw a similar result in the Obesity Medicine Association’s Treating Obesity First campaign.

Our team optimized the Treating Obesity First website for both traditional search and generative AI engines during the build stage. However, the bones and layout of a website can only take us so far in bringing in accurate, high-intent site visitors.

Google Search captured the highest-intent audience, but Reddit efficiently expanded reach and helped build a broader pool of people engaging with the campaign’s core message: obesity should be treated as a chronic disease, not a lifestyle choice. For a campaign designed to shift understanding and drive engagement, Reddit served as an awareness feeder that helped introduce the issue to physicians and medical professionals across the country.

Reddit as a Listening Tool

In addition to being a platform to reach and inform audiences, Reddit can help you glean what people are actually asking, what language they use, what misconceptions exist and where credible organizations are missing from the conversation.

Those insights can then inform your other communications and content, such as:

  • Landing pages and blog posts
  • FAQs and resources
  • Ad copy
  • Media talking points
  • Bylined content

Reddit is a triple threat of a platform that we’ve been regularly tapping into as a listening tool, a message-testing ground, and a GEO signal booster.
